Can Hyperopia (farsightedness) be treated with LASIK?

What is Hyperopia?

Hyperopia (farsightedness) is when the eyeball is too short, the light rays are focused behind the retina. Nearby objects appear blurry, distant objects are clear. Many people with low to mid range Hyperopia manage to accommodate (eye adjusts to focus) although this ability is lost around 40 years of age when the accommodating lense in the eye ages.

How can Hyperopia be corrected?

The following is a guide only and at the time of your consultation, the results of our extensive testing of your unique eyes will be discussed to find the best possible solution for you.

  • LASIK up to approx +4.00 dioptres of Hyperopia
  • Presbyond in conjunction with LASIK for 50 -64 years and over
  • Clear Lens Extraction greater than +4.00 dioptres of Hyperopia
  • If a cataract is present various lens options will be discussed in depth with you at the time of your consultation.
  • Glasses or contact lenses.

All surgical procedures carry a small risk of complication, these are discussed in detail at the time of your consultation.
