An insight into LASIK surgery
1) LASIK is very safe
Millions of successful LASIK procedures have been performed around the globe. The laser systems have become more accurate and refined over the years. The risk of having sight threatening complications (such as an infection) are very low. Lesser than the risk of having a severe infection when using contact lenses. There are inherent risks with any surgery (LASIK included). Most of the surgical risks associated with LASIK are minor and correctable. Complications associated with the creation of a flap, such as flap dislodgement. This can happen, but is rare and correctable in most cases.
2) LASIK is customised
We use topographic-guided laser systems to customise your treatment. This means you get the best visual results from LASIK surgery. We don’t only treat the refractive error in each eye, but also treat the higher order aberrations inherent in each cornea. Resulting in the best outcomes possible. Most of our patients see 20/20 or better soon after having LASIK surgery.
3) LASIK is quick, pain free and recovery is quick
LASIK surgery takes about 10-15 minutes to complete both eyes. The surgery uses topical anaesthetic agents. Meaning the surgery is pain free, with some describing a small discomfort from the eye lid guard. We endeavour to make the surgical experience as relaxing as possible with our staff on hand to reassure you the entire journey. The entire procedure takes 10 minutes per eye, with the flap creation taking 15 seconds only.
Recovery from surgery is very quick. Most patients are able to carry out normal day to day tasks the very next day. Most patients return to work and are able to drive 2 days after the surgery.
All surgical procedures carry a small risk of complication, these are discussed in detail at the time of your consultation.
