Alcon Refractive Suite
Dr van Heerden is using the Alcon refractive suite to perform corneal refractive surgery. This system is the most technologically advanced system in use in Victoria and has the ability to do customized ablations for each individual patient’s cornea.
The system comprises 2 separate lasers: the first being the WaveLight 200 Femtosecond laser that creates the surgical flap. This is extremely efficient and accurate and makes clean and precise corneal flaps. The rapid flap procedure means less time under the laser and less chance of having a complication during the laser.
The second laser, the WaveLight EX500 Excimer laser, performs rapid customized treatments which adjust according to the individual patients corneal shape. Tis laser has a special eye-tracking system which ensures that the treatment is accurate even if the eye moves during the procedure.
Dr van Heerden does all lens-based surgeries at The Avenue Hospital in Windsor. The Avenue Hospital is a large surgical hospital and has been doing eye surgery for many years.
They have excellent, efficient and experienced eye surgery nursing staff. They have the latest Alcon Centurion phacoemulsification system and Leica microscope.
