SMILE® vs LASIK : Is there a difference?
Both SMILE and LASIK are excellent procedures with proven track records. Refractive outcomes are similar in both procedures.
SMILE has the advantage of small incision (key hole) surgery, less dry eye issues post-op, and the corneal integrity is better preserved than with LASIK. The need for “touch-up” procedures after surgery are less than with LASIK.
LASIK has the advantage of treating Hyperopia (longsightedness), at present SMILE® treats Myopia (shortsightedness) and astigmatism only.
Both procedures are excellent, safe and accurate. Your surgeon advises you the best treatment option that suits your unique eyes.
All surgical procedures carry a small risk of complication, these are discussed in detail at the time of your consultation.
